Volunteer with a unique conservation project dedicated to reintroducing giant land tortoises and restoring Rodrigues Island's native lowland forest. This program focuses on crucial re-wilding efforts, offering you the chance to care for tortoises, assist with habitat restoration, and support scientific research. Located in the scenic southwest of Rodrigues, the reserve provides an immersive experience in nature while playing an active role in preserving it. Aufgaben
- Helping with tortoise husbandry - feeding, weighing and caring for tortoises.
- Helping with the management of the reforestation project – planting, weeding and seedlings monitoring.
- Helping with the administrative works and office duties of the Reserve.
- Assist scientists with their field works; - sieving of excavated materials, recording & photographing of bones
- As and when necessary, you may be asked to devise and prepare talks for school children.
- Helping with the recording of historical documents.
Your work will vary, depending on what is required at the time that you volunteer.
Qualifikationen / Voraussetzungen
- Good English skills (at least B1), French is a plus, but not necessary
- Being comfortable in nature
- Initiative and responsibility
- Good communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Eagerness to learn and enthusiasm for the work
